Horschel has been in the top five of a handful of prestigious amateur competitions in 2007. He was runner-up at the Azelea Invitational in Charleston, S.C., after losing in a play-off. He tied for third at the Porter Cup in Buffalo, N.Y. He finished fourth at the Northeast Amateur in Rumsford, R.I. and was fifth at the Southern Amateur in Pinehurst, N.C.
Already a two-time first team All-American, Horschel is heading into his junior year at the University of Florida. He was Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 2007. He opened the 2006 US Amateur with a USGA stroke play record 60 at the Chaska Town Course in Chaska, Minn. He also qualified for the 2006 US Open, and was undefeated as a member of the winning 2007 USA Palmer Cup team. He is playing in his first Walker Cup match.
